Is shortwave airtime now so cheap that these kooks can hire hourly blocks
on such huge transmitters?

Just heard WYFR on Skelton and was shocked - nice audio for sampling for
dance music, though - sounds like the same chap the Orb sampled for
Adventures beyond the Ultraworld (1700-1800 on 3955).

Thanks RHF.

Still think it's nuts that the former BBC WS transmitter is for rent at
"the lowest price".

The Wikipedia artice says it's the succesor to Rugby - however as I
believe at least MSF is now sent from Anthorn (or is that the same thing?).

From frequent London-Bham travel I see the Rugby antennas are still up (at
least they were a year or two ago) - are any buyers popping up or will
this historic site end up as copper scrap? I bet a few LF amateurs would
*love* to hook up to that antenna for a bit of DX!

Alex - I guess 'technically' the BBC itself Rents-Time
on these Transmitters too. ~ RHF

Who Knows -maybe- The IBB will start renting timehttp://www.ibb.gov/index.cfmhttp://www.ibb.gov/ibb_broadcasters.html
on their Shortwave Transmitters to China (PRC);
Russia (RF); North Korea (DPRK); North Vietnam;
Cuba etc . . .
.

Numerous 'hobby radio' groups hire air time on short wave
transmitters, which are located in England [Skelton], Italy,
Lithuania, Germany, & notably Latvia's 100kW tx on 9290KHz. We did a
test in 2005 via Latvia; www.rockradio.eu.com

This Sunday listen out for Baltic Radio.....

MV Baltic Radio is on Sunday, 6th January 2008, at 13 o'clock UTC in
the 49m-European-Shortwave-Band, 6140 KHz on air again. MV Baltic
Radio
use the transmitting station Wertachtal (Germany). The transmitter
power
will be 100 000 Watts and we use a non-directional antenna system
(Quadrant antenna).

Bear.
