Hint: cos(kx+wt) = cos(kx)*cos(wt) - sin(kx)*sin(wt)
You are obviously missing half of the terms when you
say there "isn't a difference in the waves". (FYI,
anyone who knows anything about mathematics is laughing
at you.)
