Last week I returned for a couple of nights at Grayland Beach State Park
(Washington) for DXing. This was my first DXpedition trip with the new
Perseus receiver, and it was a blast to use for active DXing as well as
recording of 400 kHz portions of the band. It was also my first time staying
in the new(er) yurts at the campground; that was a *great* choice for
comfort, particularly in mid-winter at the coast in Washington!

number of mentions of Malaysia, beginning at 1225. Between 1240 and 1245, I
heard snippets of audio that was possibly DEZC Manila, with a female
announcer in poss. Tagalog at the same level as Sibu, then fading down.

I find the audio from this radio a little harsh. I don't know how much
of this is actually due to the radio itself or has something to do with
the audio processing chain in the PC. Instructive in this regard is the
link you provided

scroll down a bit and you see a section "Audio checks against other
receivers". I thought the Racal and the AOR7030 sounded the best. The
Perseus comes in last place. I don't know about other people but I had a
great deal of trouble making out some of the words in the recordings
from the Perseus. There is no reason for this as my RX340 sounds just
fine to me with its digital sampling, demodulation, and detection. Your
recordings sound more intelligible to me from this radio than the
referenced link above for whatever reason but it sounds just as harsh to
me. I can't think of a more descriptive way to describe the audio
quality from this radio. Harsh is the best I can do.
Regarding the coax signal to noise improvements the chokes at either end
of the coax makes a great deal of sense. This is standard technique to
prevent EMI/RFI on equipment cabling. Earthing the coax shield somewhere
in the middle seems slightly unclear to me. I think you would be better
off burying the cable in the ground most if not all the cable run.
Burying the cable should be much more effective than a single point
ground.
