Dave, Along with getting the schematic, you might want to consider
re-capping. Its been my experience for the last number of years that
many of the multi-section caps have gone bad in this equipment. I've
had to replace some burned resistors as a result simply firing the rig
up, as is. The RCAF used ARC-5/SCR-274N gear up until contemporary
times and they re-did all their equipment. One can re-stuff the cans,
mount the small terminal strips where the cap was mounted, or simply
trace the wiring back to its origin and install any of several types of
small, modern caps. If you don't want to re-cap out of hand and simply
want to fire it up, I'd recommend that you at least do so with a
variable DC supply. That way you can bring things up slowly and see if
anything happens, untoward. Ideally, you would run the filaments at the
rated 24-28 volts and use a variable B+ supply to bring it up. Just a
thought that might save you some trouble. de K3HVG
