Well, it's the best answer the guy could give. It's certainly better
to say `I don't know' then to guess (unless it's an educated guess, in
which case it's ok as long as you make it clear that this `answer' is
an educated guess.)

| As I said, don't count on them to help. Most don't know their ass

The salesmen at RS are salesmen. If they pick up anything about
electronics, it's a bonus, but ultimately their job is sales, not
electronics. I'll bet most of RS's profits come from cell phones now
-- the rack of electrical components is probably still there only
because it's always been there. And maybe it's mere presence makes
them seem more knowledgable about cell phones and monster cables.

And if the salesman did end up learning a lot about electronics, he'd
get another job that actually put that knowledge to use. Wouldn't
you?

| Sure makes ya wonder why the Board of Directors allowed them to take
| on the slogan "You've got questions, we've got answers".

If your answer is `where can I get a cell phone?' `does this phone
have a camera?' `can I keep my number?' ... then they've got answers.

And since when are corporate slogans accurate anyways?

| You can't possibly have answers when the majority of your employees
| aren't electronically inclined.

Sure you can. It's just that the electronics questions are rare --
most of their questions are about cell phones, or about what kind of
cable can I connect X to Y with ...

| I don't get asked too often about the cell phone. Of course, I usually have
| mine on my belt in open view. I do it on purpose - just so I WON'T hear it.

They ask me every time. Probably because I only buy their clearance
stuff and an occasional electronic component.
