Default Reception Set R109

Chris - many thanks for your information.
Whilst you have the covers off your R109,
would it be asking too much if you could take
a digital photo for me of the interior of the power supply layout, and send
it as an attachment in an email?
It would really help when I come to rebuild mine.

Hi Chris,
The R109 I have has a grossly modified power supply. The vibrator and
transformer have been ripped out and two 240v mains transformers fitted,

one
delivering 6v and the other providing HT.
Fortunately the original HT rectifier is still there.
I have removed all the non-original power supply components. I have

managed
to obtain a 4-pin vibrator socket.
I have an unused vibrator transformer for a Wavemeter Class D, it is

marked
with a 6-0-6 volt primary and a 0 -140v secondary.
I wonder if this will work in the R109?

It may be a little on the small side, since the Class 'D' only had a

single
valve in it.

I can also discount the SUR No.7 - I forgot the mainsd input option, and
the transformer is *enormous* since it's got windings like this:

AC input

+10V 0V -10V 110V 140V 170V 200V 230V (to give 100 - 140V in 10V steps).

_or_

DC input

12V 0v 12V for vibrator switching. (Has a centre *and* an offset tap).

--------------------

DC output

-80V 0V +80V at 30mA for teleprinter magnets

AC output

40V at 40mA for AC ringing on carrier telephony equipment

DC output

12V at 40mA (probably a relay supply) This is actually quite
strange, because it's take of a *tapping* on the vibrator winding,
and there's a lampholder betweeen the centre-tap and the "12V"
takeoff point. I assume the "step up" is to compensate for the
losses in the selenium bridge rectifier used in this part of the
supply.

All in all, it's a strange beast.

Tomorrow I will dig out the complete Claas 'D' and the R109 that is
awaiting refurbishment, and compare the transformers. I may have
the appropriate EMER somewhere, which might have the transformer
winding details if I'm really lucky.

Chris.
