The ICR75, IC8500 and AOR-7030 seem to be less value for money
relative to amateur radio transceivers as they incorporate less
features and lack performance.

I can't comment on the Yaesu's, but the Icom IC-7400 is a great rig to
use as an upmarket DSP receiver (great value for money too for what
you get). A listener BM has two of them and is very satisfied with
them. However, if you want to DX on MW/LW you would have to remove the
factory attenuation in those bands. See
