I see on a reflector the Shelby hamfest is QRT for this year.
Too bad. I never got to make that one, but heard good things about it.

They have been offered alternative sites- stay tuned.

Shelby Hamfest is ON! It will be held at a VERY nice park just east of
Shelby in a small town called Dallas, NC. Gastonia, NC is nearby. The new
venue for the Shelby event is Biggerstaff Park. It is 100 acres in size with
ample parking, buildings, and wide open spaces for tailgating. It is a
BEAUTIFUL park that surpasses the Shelby Fairgrounds in every way! There is
much SHADE where tailgaters who arrive early to select a spot can find a
place under a shade tree!!! Dealers will find several sheltered horse stalls
to set up.
There are 2 lakes onsite. There are softball fields, tennis courts and
plenty of nearby restaurants as well as motels. Campsites, too!!
Directions are simple. Take Interstate 85 to Gastonia, NC (west of
Charlotte), Exit 17 (I think this is right), Gaston College exit (well
marked), Highway 321 N. towards Lincolnton, NC. See Dallas/Cherryville
Highway exit. Go UNDER the underpass, circle around to the right (you can't
go any other way) to stoplight. Take left lane going towards Cherryville,
NC. The park is on the LEFT about 1/4 mile away. You'll see McDonalds, KFC,
Arby's and a new Bojangles. There will be PLENTY of signs and
markings--almost impossible to miss. And, of course, talk-in!
Folks, if you come to the 2008 Shelby Hamfest, you are in for a treat! The
park is excellent, there are plenty of amenities, and IMHO, the Shelby Club
has pulled off a real COUP, showing that bunch of goofs at the fairgrounds
that they are NOT to be messed with!!!

I think the Fairgrounds people thought they could jerk the Club around any
way they wanted to because there was not another place in the area that
could hold it. They didn't count on Gastonia having a large number of parks
and recreation facilities, and the Parks & Recreation folks over there were
just WAITING for something like this to happen! Like panthers, they POUNCED
and secured this event. HIIIISSSSSSSS!

HA!
