Howard made a HUGE MISTAKE when he went to Satellite Radio some years
ago. Conservative estimates place his loss of listenership as high as
55% when he left conventional FM broadcast radio for PAY satellite
radio. Most of his listeners can't even afford or don't even ewant a
Sat radio. Howard is therefore a NOBODY. He shot himself in the foot.
If he's smart he'll abandon Sat Radio and go back to conventional FM
Broadcasting outlets ASAP.

Say what ? Listener ratings/numbers ?

If I gave you a choice between millions of listeners and 1 million contract
per year. Or you could have multi-million dollar contract from an
upstart sat. radio service that wants a big name -- what would you do ?
His contract made him a multi-millionaire.. he made far more in his contract
than he could have ever made toiling away on FM airwaves for many years.

I think he did the right move for himself. If mega-media companies are
the kings - then Howard is still a pawn -- so why not cash out and make
tons of money when you have the chance ? Sat. Radio has already figured
out that their ratings have not appreciably increased from what was expected
bringing in names like Howard Stern. But Howard essentially has a no cut clause
and will be making millions more, no doubt laughing all the way to the bank.

So explain how he 'shot himself in the foot'. Unless you consider making
an unbelievable multi-million dollar payday is bad ammo to shoot yourself with.
He could easily decide to not re-sign when his current contract is up
and still go anywhere he'd like to making more money than probably you or
I would see in several lifetimes. And doing what he likes to do.

Wow - I hope one day to be able to 'shoot myself in the foot' like this.

If a bear craps in the woods and no one hears it or smells it but the bear gets
paid a lot of money to take the dump - does the bear really care ?
