Hi all;
Well I never thought this would happen but I unpacked my Icom 781
after 3 years in its box(moved to 4-land).
Today I took it out & put in place on my desk.
Fired it up & initially it seemed fine, full output, 150 watts, Audio
adjusted fine, received great.
After a short while of familiarizing myself with the controls, I
started to notice power dropping off. Bad Cable I thought so I changed
it & it was fine for a short time then did the same thing, no output,
ALC meter pins to the right on mike key up. Another bad cable? I slid
it back out again & changed the Coax cable again. Seemed fine but then
started over.
I got sorta annoyed & took a break, came back 2 hours later and was
perfect again but after 45 minutes it started again. Power dropping
off, finally nothing out, ALC meter pins on mike key-up but the PO on
meter shows fine but outboard meter shows zero.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'd hate to have to send this out:-(

First get A 50 Ohm dummy load connected to the Xcvr. That may
tell you all you need to know..If it works on dummy load ,look into
your ant system,If no work on dummy load ,,Look at power supply and
see if PA is drawing current from the power supply..If you have no
load on PA the rig will shut down...You may just have several minor
problems ,,,not a major problem...GL W4PQW
Well I will try that but I have to add that I tried several Coax
jumpers, same problem, all other radios work fine on same antenna thru
same switches.
Now it seems to be just about permanent, in IC or ALC meter position,
the needle goes all the way to the right. I hate to say "pins" upon
mike key up:-(
I will try a Dummy load also!
tnx & 73....
