While listening to CRI on 9650 at 1300 for some Olympic coverage I was
reminded
that today, August 9, marks the 63rd anniversary of the atomic bombing
of
Nagasaki which finally brought WWII to a close. (Hiroshima was bombed
on Aug. 6,
1945.)

My father was in the Air Force from 1942 to 1970. When I was a litte kid
we lived in
Ft. Worth, Texas, stationed at Carswell AFB. My dad's friend and fellow
officer
Kermit Beahan and his wife would visit our house from time to time.
Major Beahan
would play catch with me in the front yard, and I remember Mrs. Beahan
helping my mom
cook supper and sitting with me on the sofa.

Kermit Beahan was the bombardier on Bock's Car, the plane that dropped
the bomb
on Nagasaki.
