The OP did not mention the handheld radio model ,other than it is from
Kenwood. An instruction manual with circuit diagramme(s) of the
relevant radio can highly likely be found at : www.mods.dk

The Service Manuals are available either as a free download from various
places or can be bought online and shipped overnight for a decent price.
All I have seen have extensive parts lists and detailed schematics and board
prints. You head needs to be there if the part is unknown. It could be
bipolar, fet, or even a regulator. If you don't know what model radio you
have, why not?
