I just purchased Trunk Tracker 3, handheld, and it works great. But I
cannot figure out, how lock out a talkgroup. The trunk I'm monitoring
is Motorola Smartzone (I think type 2). I do not want to lock out the
channel, just specific talkgroups. Any help will be appreciated.
Note: I have been scanning for about 20 years, so I'm just a novice
when it come to Trunk Tracking.

If this is similar to a Trunk Tracker III base scanner (e.g., BC 898T),
there are two ways to accomplish locking out talkgroups. These methods
assume that the trunking frequencies have already been programmed into the
scanner, and that the scanner is already finding talkgroups when it is in
Search mode.

Method 1: When the talkgroup is displayed (a three to five digit number
rather than a specific scanner frequency), press the Lockout button while a
transmission on that talkgroup is still active. The talkgroup should be
locked out immediately. All other talkgroups should be continue to be
scanned except for those which have been locked out. This works well enough
up to the maximum allowable lockouts for the scanner, but also can require a
lot of scanner listening time just to locate and individually lock out
multiple talkgroups.

Method 2: If supported on the handheld, create a list of talkgroups (up to
the maximum number of talkgroups that can be in a specific list). The
scanner will only trunk scan among that list of talkgroups when in Scan
mode, but also be aware that this applies only to the frequency bank(s) that
are programmed for trunking and that the remaining banks can still be
scanned conventionally. Switching to Search mode will once again continue to
find other talkgroups within the trunking frequency banks, except for those
talkgroups which have already been previously locked out using method 1.

This is basically generic information, not specific to any particular
trunking scanner model, but hopefully this is also somewhat helpful in
getting started with locking out unwanted talkgroups.
