Exonerated by being too stupid to know better not the exact words but
you get the idea...
Perhaps if he would have not been to stupid ( he ranked low in flight
class) to disobey his flight commander, he would not have been shot down
and brainwashed by commies. Do you think he will break under pressure
being our prez?
