As the highest-ranking POW and the son and grandson of US admirals,
the Vietnamese offered to release McCain due to his extensive
injuries. He declined and was actually tortured more for denying the
North Vietnamese their propaganda coup. He has been quoted as saying
he couldn't leave the other men behind. To this day, he can't lift his
arms above his shoulders. I won't be voting for Senator McCain, but
I'm not really going to allow you to demean this man's heroic courage.
