Philco Orphan needing a name (model number)
On that first one...I'm not convinced at all that its even a Philco.
The only thing that suggests Philco to me is the dial but it could have
been robbed from another radio.
The chassis seems to be lightweight folded metal, possibly aluminum,
which Philco didn't use in that era.
The cabinet isn't Philco-ish either.
That said...I don't know if Philco operated a factory in Mexico in those
days but even if they did I don't think they would have strayed so far
from the product line in either the chassis or cabinet. I recently
visited a friend in Argentina who has an Argentine-made Philco cathedral
from that era and there's no mistaking it for anything but a Philco product.
I think what he has is commonly referred to down south as an 'armador'
radio. Not necessarily a homebrew but a radio made out of components
from the local market.
