Drew,

Any antenna that you would put in the attice would more than likely be
horizontally polarized, unless you have 18 feet of space between the
floor and the roof peak. Most CB'ers run vertically polarized antenna
so a horizontal antenna would cause you to lose some gain on reception
and transmit when taking to someone using a vertically polarized
antenna. However, any antenna is better than no antenna at all.

A center fed dipole made out of wire cut for 27.1850 may be your best
bet, about 17.5 feet total length from end to end before pruning for
resonance, fed in the center with some RG-8 coax. Since it is going
to be put in the attic, normal lengths may not apply, so the antenna
may need to be longer or shorter than normal, I would start with 18
feet to be safe.

For the Antron-99, the washer for the sections are stainless steel
split lock washers, each section only uses one.
