Really? I didn't know that. Anyone else, is this fact?

Don't know about the UK. *I do know that they did it in the US during the
war. There have been varying accounts of to whom it was done. Some accounts
say only expatriots of enemy countries, some say all SW radios had to be
modified. I've personally had to rebuild several of the pre-war SW radios
that had been disabled on SW (some were really nasty hack jobs...
bandswitches removed or wired around, coils removed, components broken,
etc.).
