True. Magnets have 2 poles called north and south in reference to the
direction they seek on the earth. Like poles repel and unlike poles
attract.

Earth`s magnetic field produces an electron and ion flow which protects
Earth from the solar wind, turns aside charged cosmic rays, and causes
auroras. A magnetosphere turns with the rotation of the planet.

The earth`s magnetic poles don`t agree exactly with its geographic poles
on its axis of rotation. The magnetic poles slowly circle about the
geographic poles by about 0.04-degrees of longitude per year. About
every 100,000 years the Earth`s magnetic field reverses, interchanging
north and south magnetic poles.

So, if the earth keeps on turning as it always has, the magnetic
polarities will continue their reversals as throughout history when man
did not exist or was too primative to record such events.
