One interesting point brought up was that Mars doesn't have a magnetic
field. The idea was that its core was too cool. Similarly, as Earth's core
cools, albeit slowly, its magnetic field will become weaker and weaker.

So, if the earth keeps on turning as it always has, the magnetic
polarities will continue their reversals as throughout history when man
did not exist or was too primative to record such events.
