Torture.
Strong word.
Always terrible, never justified.
Child Torture.
You're correct about the style. However, these aren't Scientologists.
These are most likely people who are ****ed at me because I have
published some journal articles criticizing their favorite so-called
"attachment" therapies. They are ****ed at some of the others named
because of their website that criticizes these therapies and exposes
them for what they are. They have repeatedly tried, unsuccessfully to
have taken down by misuse of DMCA, the kind of tactics we're all
familiar with. Here is a blog by a survivor of this so-called
"therapy" that explains the situation:

My guess is that since their attempts have failed and Project DoD is
standing up to them, they're now throwing tantrums on usenet and
elsewhere about this. Picking alt.religion.scientology was a rather
stupid choice on their part, given how most people here feel about
people trying to suppress free speech on the internet.
Maybe a little holding therapy will reduce their rage at us
Why would they be ranting about Patricia Greenway when I threw a one
line insult their way? *Only a vanishingly small number of obsessed
kooks still feel compelled to emit delusional froth from their mouth
with wacky Greenway conspiracy theories.
Now that I don't know. I don't know what Patricia Greenway has to do
with any of this. These attacks started after they failed to get some
critical of AT websites taken down, but why they would bring her up, I
don't know. I've given up trying to understand their irrational
thought processes.
