WWV is not very good for determining radio conditions, for most of us,
it comes from the opposite direction (Fort collins) than most
signals....

I live about 70 miles south of the transmitter and almost
never hear WWV. WWVH comes in louder and clearer.

That's how it works. WWV is aimed over your head.
