Hello Ron: WLS does not reduce its power it's 50Kw 24 hours non directional.
The transmitter is located in the far south suburbs as WBBM and WGN are closer to you in the northern subs. My best guess is nightime noise. Also proagation has been down due to low solar activity. If your in a very populated area, switching power supplies,cable noise and maybe a bad power transformer in the neighborhood could be the problem. As we head to summer your problem may leave on it's own. Noise has been a problem in certain areas around Chicago. I have noticed problems with WLS in the far northern subs generally from dirty powerlines.
