Let's do a "what-if".

You liive in Haiti and the earthquake occurs.

All hell breaks out...you escape with your life and nothing else.

You need to communicate with your family in the States.

What do you build for a radio from the rubble?

Looking forward to the submissions.

HEY OM:

As incident commander you must:
Set up a command post then:
Find a few AM radios in da ruble. You will need 3 radios. One for
receive, one for bfo, one to use the local oscillator for the xmitter.
Using the so called morse code to send and receive your info.

The bfo radio will have to be tuned 455khz above the receive freq. so
you will be able to copy morse code and will have to be close to the
receive radio to hetrodyne the morse code signal. Although in pinch
you could ask that A3 mode be sent where you don't needs a bfo.

For an aerial use a fallen power main, as it will be quite sum time
b4 the main becomes live.
And you must has a good ground connection. Like a copper water pipe
coming out of the ground, even a lead pipe would work

Send SOS until somebody copies you.

When your batteries go dead use a car altenator attached to bike
frame, use nylon panty hose for a drive belt, attached to the rear
rim, enlist people to peddle the bike for more power.

After it's all said and done:
File an incident report
and debrief yourself in a debriefing meeting.

I read sum where's that any frequency and any power can be used in
this emergency.
