Remember, Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini were left-wing Socialists, just put a

Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin were all totalitarians.
Jesus was a socialist, Hitler was not.
And you were there to witness and report here all these times and
places of history! LMAO @ Dr.DaviD PhD (piles highest & deepest).
May 1st to me as a Catholic is not May Day, but the Feast of St Joseph
the Worker. This feast came directly from the attempts of various
modern popes to address economic issues.
When socialism first reared its ugly head in the 1800s due to very
real exploitation of poor workingmen in industrialized Europe, Pope
Leo XIII wrote the first of a long line of social encyclicals called
"Rerum Novarum (On New Things)". Rerum Novarum and subsequent social
teachings basically made a few key points:
1) there is a fundamental right to private property grounded in the
natural law;
2) private property is not an absolute right for man to do whatever he
wants but must serve the common good of man;
3) socialism is always and everywhere anti-Christian and does not
serve the common good;
4) workers can organize in unions but unions must serve the common
good;
5) labor is primary to capital in organizing economic life because
economic life must serve human dignity;
6) the State must intervene to help the poor only when other organs of
society have not done so adequately, and that intervention must be at
the lowest level possible (local vs national); and
7) the family is the fundamental organ of society, not the individual.
Man is not homo economicus (economic man) but is rather created in the
image and likeness of God who worked yes, but also rested on the
Sabbath.
With all of this in mind, I find myself to be uncomfortably not at
home in any one political party on the face of this earth but still
leaning more toward the conservative Libertarian Republican side of
things because on balance, they get it right more than wrong in this
vale of tears.
