Neville Chamberlain got "peace in our time" by being pragmatic.

Chamberlain was the victim of character assassination. *Churchill liked
him a lot. *You should look for "the rest of the story".

Now, now, I did not assassinate his character, I just related a
verifiable historic event. Hindsight is 20-20, and nobody picked on
him at the time for appeasement - that came later.
