I found out there are WAY more exceptions to the 'I before E except
after C' rule than there are applicable situations. The 'rules' of
grammar, as you say, are a joke. The spelling makes no sense either.

The dictionary editors should go into a grade four class and see how
the kids think stuff should be spelled. It would be a learning
experience for the adults.
