Well, American idol, music was chosen by the public. Small bands
started out playing small gigs, bars, etc. If they were good (what the
people actually wanted) they "made it."

Now that music is just a business, only crap is turned out and the real
talent is never recognized ... but then, that same thing goes with a lot
of "stuff" ...
