An ounce of gold today, when the price is adjusted for inflation, is
worth less than it was in the 1970s. As for the rest, it's the
survivalist's day-dream. By the way, when you're starving you can't
eat gold. One old Vietnamese told of how it was in '54 when he was
following the trails and roads south to run away from the Communists.
At the low point in the trip, rice was traded for equal weight in
gold. He only survived because he had a enough body fat to keep him
going. Others simply died on the road.
