It has to have GOOD audio. A remote control would be
nice to control tuning..

It could be "portable"..... but not POCKET size
portable or the audio will suffer too much

Any advice on what to look for?

Hundred dollar range or little above would be good
to...if that's even possible given specs above

A used Eton E1 is about twice that on Ebay. Very nice audio,
particularly with headphones or external speakers. It's a large
portable; but no remote capability. Its front end performance and
features (including phasing-type selectable-sideband sync detector)
put it in a class with far more expensive desktop receivers.

I have one and like it.

Kevin, I am getting tempted to grab one and try it side-by-side with
my R75. *How well does the S-Am hold lock on weak sgnals?

BpnJ,

The Eton E1 {IMHO} is better than the Grundig Satellit
800-M and as good a basic Radio as the Icom IC-R75.

The AM-SYNC Function on the E1 is better in all respects
then both of the other two.

The E1 has more bells and whistles then the GS800-M
but fewer than the R75.

Plus the E1 is less of a Battery Hog than the GS800-M
E1 : ~56 Hours about a Week @ 8 Hours per Day
GS800-M : ~12 Hours about a 3-Days @ 4 Hours per Day

NOTE : The E1 uses Four (4) "D" Cell Batteries {6 Volts}
which is easily doable with a set of 4 NiMH Batteries and
a 4-Station Battery Charger. Fully Charge the Batteries
for 24-Hours and they will last a whole Week.
-while- The GS800-M takes 6 "D" Batteries {9 Volts} so
your best solution there is a 12V SLA Battery and a 9V
Regulator for an 'alternative' Battery Power Source.
