I typically toss most mailings received from the ARRL. They're either
pleas for donations for this or that or a solicitation to purchase
equipment insurance. A couple of days ago, I received a solicitation
from the League for car insurance through MetLife. I was about to
toss it when I remembered that my insurance was up for renewal in a
few days.

I telephoned MetLife today and was surprised that the company's quote
for car insurance using the ARRL group discount, saved me over $300
per year on car insurance.

Chalk one up for the ARRL.

Just check your statement next time carefully. I have had State Farm
for over 20+ years. AIG said they could save me and sure enough Saved
me over 300 dollars for the 6months on 2 cars and my motorcycle. But
at renewal time it was 300 MORE than what I got at State Farm. Called
AIG and they said it was just a normal rate raise. State Farm at
least took me back like I never left.

I had a similar experience in going from State Farm to AIG. The trouble
was, State Farm kept increasing my rates too. AIG raised my rates three
years back after a commercial truck backed into my car while it was
parked on the street. When I called to challenge the increase, I was
told that West Virginia state law *permits* them to increase rates even
if the insured is not at fault. The truck driver's insurance paid for
repairs to my vehicle.

West Virginia insurance rates are awful, by the way, mostly because of
the number of law suits and the number of deer.

SO be careful about these low price lead ins. Also check your coverage.

My coverage is identical to what I had with State Farm and AIG. This is
not a "lead in" price, it is a discount offered to ARRL members.
Metlife/ARRL even knocks 50 bucks off my deductible every year that I go
without a claim.

This ARRL/Metlife deal seems to be the real thing.
