Another widely held misconception. While lead melts around
650 F, it doesn't boil (vaporize) until at least 1400 F.

What you're smelling is the rosin flux. And yes, that stuff
ain't healthy for you. (See UK Safety bulletin

What you do have to look out for, with regard to the lead, is
washing your hands before you eat after working with solder.
