The poor saps are so isolated that the Kims have them actually believing
that they have it BETTER than the rest of the world, that S. Korea wants
what THEY have! Three generations of propaganda with no outside sources of
information is quite powerful.- Hide quoted text -

Don't they have any radios in the North ?

Very few have any sort of radio or television. These are mostly "community"
things. Wouldn't make a lot of sense to have them, since outside of
Pyeongyang there's pretty much no electricity, and it's rationed bigtime
even in Pyeongyang. They shut it off most of the night and good chunks of
the day.

Add to that, for those that have radios, they are set to one station: they
have no tuners. If one is caught with a radio that will tune to a station
other than the one authorized for their area, it's a death penalty offense.
Hell, practically everything is a death penalty offense; they're not gonna
spend precious money and resources keeping a lot of people in prison. One
guy was given the firing squad recently for putting up posters (or was it
one poster?) against Kim (the dear leader). Those folks are serious.
