It was a lot like that in Germany in the 80's .I was stationed there
for 3 years and found if you get out of the "GI Towns" and went to the
smaller villages and towns outside of the bases they treated you like
gold.Of course I guess that's like anywhere else you get out of the
big cities and people are a more laid back .
