In 1912 Edward Mandell House anonymously published the futuristic
political novel Philip Dru: Administrator: a Story of Tomorrow,
1920-1935. I've not read it but the plot is the protagonist leads the
democratic western U.S. in a civil war against the plutocratic East
and becomes the dictator of America.
Self described "rodeo clown" Glen Beck often cites the book as
"proof" of whatever conspiracy he is peddling to increase his
ratings and bank account. And of course the lemmings lap it up.
