Hi:

I am interested in making a simple circuit with SMT components since
the IC used comes only in SMT form. Can anyone suggest a kit that can
make PCB which is good for SMT component?

If you're only planning to do one board, you might consider saving the
hassle of trying to do it yourself and getting it wrong several times
before having success, and using a place like
www.expresspcb.com.
They provide layout software, even.

I can tell you that the boards that DigiKey sells, and that Circuit
Specialists sell, both can be made to work well with SMT parts. I
have no trouble with 10 mil traces and spaces, and can do 5 mil if I'm
careful, printing the pattern on transparency material with an ink jet
printer (in "high quality" mode). I suppose the complete kits they
sell would be enough to do the job. You'll need a way to get the
layout into a clean transparency.

There have been a LOT of articles on the r.r.a.h. and
sci.electronics.design newsgroups about making your own boards over
the years. Do a search of the archives (e.g. with Google). There are
also a few good web sites. www.thinktink.com is one I like ("PCB
Process" on the left side of the home page...); just use what you need
and don't go overboard.

Cheers,
Tom
