Death Notice
We are sad to announce the death of Patricia Mulvihill, mother of Noel
EI6HW who passed away last weekend. She will be sadly missed by her
family and friends.

EI80IRTS Certificate
The Irish Radio Transmitters Society was founded 1932 and we are proud
to celebrate our 80th anniversary in 2012. As part of the celebrations
the Society will be using the special callsign EI80IRTS. A special
certificate, available to all amateurs and SWLs, is being offered to
celebrate this occasion. Contact the special call EI80IRTS during the
period of January 1st, 2012 to December 31st, 2012. Requirements: 2-way
communication on Phone, CW or Digi modes on the HF (1.8-28) and VHF
(50-1200MHz) bands. Cross band QSO's will not be accepted for this
award. Contacts made via active earthbound reflectors, repeaters and
EchoLink will not be counted. The certificate is available in three
levels: a. Bronze - 3 different bands. b. Silver - 5 different bands.
c. Gold - 8 different bands. Applicants should submit a list showing
the date and time you worked or heard EI80IRTS, plus frequency and
mode. QSL cards are not required. The declared QSO's will be
cross-checked for validity based on the logs of EI80IRTS. The
application fee is 5 or $US7. Thos EI2JD will be the manager for this

application by mail. IRTS members and affiliated clubs are invited to

IRTS Request for Return of Trophies
It is time once again to recall all trophies presented at the 2011
IRTS, AGM in Limerick.
Trophies and Cups can be returned to the IRTS Stand at the Phoenix
Radio Club Rally in Coolmine on Sunday 12th February. or to any IRTS
Committee Member before end of February 2012.
This will allow for engraving to be done and allow for repairs if
necessary.

Nominations For Awards for IRTS Trophies.
The time is here again for nominations for the several awards for IRTS
Trophies that are required from within the membership, this includes
the awards for, 1. Service to the Society or to Amateur Radio. Awards
in this category can be to members or non-members.
2 Awards for other achievements.
Awards in this category [2] include the 4 and 6 Meter Shields, the SWL
Award, and the awards for Quality Construction Projects. These are
confined to members only.

IRTS 80th Anniversary
IRTS will be celebrating its 80th anniversary this year 2012. Details
of a worldwide contest - CQIR - to take place on Saint Patrick's Day,

Shannon Basin Radio Club
The Shannon Basin Radio Club will be holding its AGM on the 27 January
2012 at 8.30pm in Hannons Hotel Roscommon. All members are requested to

Limerick Radio Club
The Annual General Meeting of Limerick Radio Club will be hold on
Wednesday 8 February 2012 in the Limerick Institute of Technology at
7.30pm and all paid up members are requested to attend.
Rally: Limerick Radio Club rally will be held on Sunday March 11th 2012
at the Radisson Blue Hotel on the Ennis Road, Limerick. Doors open at
11am and all the usual traders will attend. Bring and Buy tables can be

The January meeting of the Tipperary Amateur Radio Group will take
place on Wednesday next the 25th of January in Raheen House Hotel
Raheen Road Clonmel at 8.30 pm All are welcome.

South Dublin Radio Club Talks
Following Joe EI7GY's interesting talk on the DXCC programme Colin
McKeeman will give a talk on aeronautical radio communications on the
North Atlantic on Tuesday the 31st January
The club plans on launching it's television repeater for Dublin at the
Phoenix Amateur Radio Club Rally in February.

West Tyrone Amateur Radio Club
West Tyrone Amateur Radio Club is running a course for the Intermediate
Exam which will take place on Tuesday 3rd April 2012.
The course will be on the following Saturday afternoons... Saturday
18th & 25th February, 10th, 24th 31st March, we will be holding a
registration night before our regular monthly meeting on Tuesday 7th
February cost of the course is £65 which includes all materials needed
for the course and the exam fee.

DX News
Kurt KE7KUS has been active as T6KK since 19 January. He is based at
Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan and will be there till mid-February. QSL
info is via his home call (either direct or bureau) and Logbook of the
World.
Another new station from Afghanistan is Jose CT1FKN who is signing
T6JM. He is there until mid-June and is mainly QRV on 20m SSB and
BPSK31. QSL to his home call.
Some activity has been heard from Malpelo Island where the HK0NA team
are setting up the expedition station. The remainder of the team should
now have arrived and a major operation will be underway. The expedition
will last until around 8 February so everyone should manage to get at
least one QSO in the log.
Laci HA0NAR is leading a small group which will be QRV as FW0R from the
Pacific islands of Wallis and Futuna. Dates are 24 January until 23
February. QSL Manager is HA0NAR.
