130 Skywarn Spotters Train in Chicopee:

CHICOPEE, Mass. (wwlp) - On the eve of the one year anniversary of the June
first tornado, a very timely weather conference in Chicopee. 130 people
came to the National Weather Service Skywarn training seminar held at
22News studios Thursday night. They came to be certified and re-certified
as "Skywarn Spotters," capable of identifying and reporting severe weather
and damage. "We can verify that there is a tornado on the ground. Or
there is damage. Or there's hail or extreme flooding, street flooding.
Just different types of storm damage and verify it and tell the National
Weather Service," said Eric Tuller, a skywarn coordinator from Ware. Many
of these "weather spotters" are also Ham Radio Operators, who form an
emergency reporting network. Among them, Jim brisbois from Chesterfield.

Take Part in the Annual On-The-Air Station Test from WX4NHC at the NHC:

The annual WX4NHC On-the-Air Station Test from the National
Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami will take place Saturday, June 2,
1300-2100 UTC (9 AM - 5 PM EDT). "The purpose of this annual station
test is to test all of our radio equipment, computers and antennas
using as many modes and frequencies as possible in preparation for
this year's hurricane season," said WX4NHC Assistant Amateur Radio
Volunteer Coordinator Julio Ripoll, WD4R. "This is not a contest or
simulated hurricane exercise."

Average daily sunspot numbers sank more than 28 points this week
(nearly 26%) to 81.9. Average daily solar flux declined more than 16
points to 111.6. This is for the seven days of May 24-30, and is
compared to the previous seven days, May 17-23.
