You felt it necessary to reply to a 14 and a half year old post, yet can't
even bother adding some sort of reply?
Newsgroups are not a playground. If you have something to say, say it.
Don't go randomly "reposting" old messages. Don't reply to old messages,
if you have something important to say, then start with a fresh post.
Turnover is high, so virtually nobody from even a few years ago is still
reading the newsgroup, and given many of the posts, are often one time
only, they post and are never heard from again.
Just because google still hasnt' fixed the bug to allow replies to old
messages doesn't mean one should reply. The original poster has long ago
given up on the matter if they didn't get an answer, and yet simply
posting some 14 year old message leaves out the context of what others
said at the time. Much of the time, though not this one, there is a long
thread going with the original post, but the clueless who think google is
usnet are the only ones who see the old emssages, since they've long
expired elsewhere.

I do not see a serious problem here. Even after 14 years the subject matter is still valid, since this is a REAL on the topic question.
