The sad thing is - you can buy a TRANSCEIVER for about the same amount of money!

Kenwood TS 2000 - could usually be had for about $800 used!

Rule of thumb, when ever a receivers front door is as wide as a barn, you end up getting something that not only lets in what you want to hear, but also what you do not!

As in spurs, all kinds of noise, overload etc..
And, even though it might be advertised as receiving everything, at some point, the filtering inside of it will not accept the signal - IE my Yaesu FT 8900 is as deaf as a dead person on 350 MHz. After a simple test, it was found that it took about 600 microvolts just to open the squelch on 350 mhz - you might as well hold the transmitters antenna to the receivers antenna if you wanted to hear anything.
