Default What is the value of a junk box?

When one has amassed a station to suit all of one's needs, covering bands
and modes of interest,
then what is the value of a junk box, other than to keep that station
properly maintained?

eg, Do body-tip-spot resistors have any use, except perhaps for maintaining
antique gear,
and as for RTL logic chips, ...well!

It is all too easy to fall in the trap of thinking that XYZ is too good for
the current project
despite, in this case, being a tuning mechanism from the 1930s that has been
in the box
since 1965!

Remember that the most expensive componenet that is already in the junk box
is much
cheaper than the cheapest component you could buy.
