Bopper were Texans with more connection to Western Swing than anything
else.

Holly was pure panhandle high plains Indian reservation creativity and
inspiration. He introduced forms and structures unknown prior to him,
like Hank Williams did a few years earlier.
The Big Bopper was a one man wrecking crew. He wrote "White Lightning" a
damn fine rock song by George Jones (his best imho). SE Texas has lots
of fumes.
