Amateur radio enthusiasts on Sunday helped authorities track down a Eugene
man with dementia after he had wandered away from his home. "Ham" radio
specialists used locating equipment to find the 78-year-old man. He was
wearing an electronic transmitter bracelet when he was found near Eighth
Avenue and Willamette Street in the downtown area. Two hours before that,
his wife had reported him missing from their home east of the University of
Oregon campus, Lane County sheriff's officials said.
