RADAR tubes are expensive, too.
Ask Norad...They were buying tubes for the north American radar defense
system from Russia. The Russians were the *only* source.
You should ask those 160+ US Senators and Representatives with shares in
the arms industry how this came to be...have they got shares in the
Russian arms industry too?

The bloody fanged arms industry takes pride in working both sides of a
conflict. The USA manufactures AK47s for just such purposes.
The total of AKs in existence worldwide exceeds 100 million! Why would US want to get involved in such a competitive business ?
ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. We'd much rather outsource it, and any number of
relatively friendly countries have the ability to produce AK47's at a
fraction of what it would cost in the US to do so. After All imagine
how much an A47 would cost to manufacture in the USA if it costs $3000
to make a simple hammer for the military. Our course the USA model
would involve numerous improvements who value would be extremely
dubious in combat, while escalating the price at least ten fold....
Precisely...In one of his last interviews Mr.Kalashnikov admitted that PRC alone had flooded world markets with a very poorly made imitation of his product .
