Hi,

I'm trying to help my elderly Dad (95) to tune his YEASU FT-990. He is
trying to use CW, and I thing I have everything set right, but am not

sure.
I can not get any needle movement, unless the MOX button is pushed in. I
can not locate the Manual for it.

So, what would be the correct settings for transmitting and receiving CW

on
the Yeasu 990 and what does MOX mean?

Thanks

MOX is manual transmit. It's how you can put out a constant carrier for
tuning.

There should be two ways to set your transceiver for doing CW.

Method 1.
Set radio to CW mode
Push the send button to go to transmit mode
Key your CW transmission with straight key or paddles/keyer
Push the send button to return to receive mode

Method 2.
Set the radio to CW mode
Turn the VOX on
Key your CW transmission
Note in this case, the radio automatically switches into transmit when you
key down and returns to receive when on key up. You can set the VOX delay
so that you can return to receive between every dot or dash (full breakin)
or so that you don't return to receive until a longer pause occurs, allowing
you to send whole letters, words, or phrases before reverting automatically
to receive depending on the delay setting (this is called semi-breakin).
