Students to speak to spaceman Peake

Students at Sandringham School, St Albans are expected to speak to Tim
Peake aboard the International Space Station some time during the period of
5 to 10 January, using the special event call sign GB1SAN. This is the

News of 5MHz in Spain

At the end of November, the existing Spanish 5MHz permission came to a
close. Following the result of the WRC-15 decision on 5MHz, the Spanish
administrator has now permitted access to the new allocation from 5351.5 to
5366.5kHz with 15W maximum EIRP and 3kHz maximum bandwidth, using SSB and

Surprise activity from North Korea

The world’s most-wanted entity, North Korea, was briefly on the air on 20
December. Polish DXer Dom Gryzb, 3Z9DX worked several hundred stations as
P5/3Z9DX on 20, 15 and 10m. He reported very high noise levels in
Pyongyang, from where he ran 100W to a vertical just above ground level.
