Watch CBS Radio News (!)
I'm experimenting with Roku. One of their channels is something called
CBSN, which is a live 24/7 news wheel. At the top of the hour CBSN goes to
the CBS Radio network news studio where a newscaster does a combo newscast.
The one I watched at 4:00am Pacific was done by Gary Nunn. The CBS Radio
News sounder came on and he began talking. When it came to a sound bite, it
looked like he took a pencil eraser or some kind of pointer in his right
hand and tapped on something. He kept his mic open the whole time. The
entire newscast was not run, but only the first 3 minutes, so I didn't get a
chance to see a spot break. Interesting that CBS Radio is doing combo
newscasts. Oh, and Gary Nunn was reading the news off real sheets of paper,
one per story. The sound bites were all queued up, apparently, given that
he seemed to point to the same place over and over again; he didn't have to
look up any particular cut.
