 I am currently using a West Mountain RIGrunner with the big leads
 connected to a sizable power supply.  I am curious as to the best way
 to attach my deep-cycle batteries to this system.  The goal is to have
 a station which can run uninterrupted through a power outage or
 battery switching, and whose connected batteries are kept charged
 continuously.
 
 The ideal solution here seems to be two power panels -- one for power
 sources, and one for power consumers.  A nice thick set of wires will
 connect the source power panel to the DC IN on the consumer power
 panel.  My power supply can be connected to the source power panel,
 but I'm not sure what I should do about the batteries.
 
 Is it as easy as connecting the batteries directly to the source power
 panel?  I seem to recall a posting about using a relay to protect
 against low voltage conditions on the batteries -- I'll try to find it
 to see how to apply it to my situation.
 
 Will I need to modify the power supply so that it doesn't get
 zorched by the batteries when commercial power fails?  There was an
 old ARRL article series on power supplies, and I think they mentioned
 using a diode to prevent shorting something out.
 
 Will my equipment be damaged if I add or remove batteries to the
 source power panel?  Will it matter if commercial AC is on or not?
