Why would you want to send it to a microphone? An earphone would work
better. There are crystal radio designs both with and without the
capacitor. Those with the capacitor give more volume. Those without are
more selective.
If you're not talking about a crystal radio, the reason for the capacitor
is to filter out the RF which can be stronger than the audio and overload
the amplifier.
