Hams Work to Keep Bicyclists Safe:

CENTREVILLE -- Helping to keep 400 bicyclists safe during the Two Rivers
Bike Ride on Saturday, June 25, is the primary mission of Amateur Radio
Operators (known as hams) from the Queen Anne's Amateur Radio Club. A net
control located at the ride start/finish maintains constant contact with
operators at each of the seven rest stops along the 15, 30, 66 and 100
miles routes.
In addition, seven more amateurs are assigned to the seven SAG (Supply and
Gear) vehicles that circle the bike routes to aid any cyclist in trouble.
They also carry supplies to the rest stops and transport riders to the next
rest stop, as necessary. The club provides communication for cycling and
running events as training exercises for emergencies.

Sun Experiences First Spotless Day of the 11-Year Solar Cycle:

Roughly every 11 years the sun's activity changes. It goes through a cycle
with 'minimums' and 'maximums' - periods of low and high activity,
respectively. The change in the sun's activity cause changes in space, in
the atmosphere, and on Earth's surface. These changes have been observed
from earth for decades. That recorded the sun spotless day, saying it is
not implicit of anything. 'This is the first spotless day of the 24-25
solar minimum. Not a great deal can be read from that,' the site reported.
Days with no sunspots can happen multiple times during the sun's solar
cycle or not at all.
